Growing Through Concrete

One of my mantras this year is to “embrace the generosity of visibility.”

I have no problem being open and vulnerable with my friends and family. I’ve cultivated a community that is safe and supportive. But exposure on a larger scale - learning to take ownership of my opinions, my goals, my philosophies, and my story – has been (and continues to be) an area of immense growth.

Exposure is exhausting. There are a lot of things in this world that try to keep us small – whether that’s cultural norms, institutions, circumstances, or even our own worn-out patterns of thinking and behaving. Sometimes it feels easier (and safer) to remain hidden, buried, underground.

A few months ago, @mantramagazine posted, “Shoutout to all the plants growing through concrete.” And I FEEL that.

If this resonates with you too, if you are one of those plants, I see you. I am you. I’m growing alongside you. I see you soaking up sunshine through the cracks. I see you breaking through. I see your determination, your strength, your fortitude.

And most importantly, I see the unique beauty you’re bringing to this world. And I’m grateful for it. 🌿
