One Well-Worded Question

I was gifted this question by a phenomenal friend and fellow coach. I thought I’d pass it along to you.

What struck me most was the nuance of its language.

Let’s look at the phrase “how large.” This is not about size – big or small is irrelevant. It’s about abundance over scarcity. This is the reason I’m so drawn the imagery of the “edge of becoming” – one of my favorite quotes by Sue Monk Kidd. Like this question, the “edge of becoming” alludes to the ever-expanding growth, the limitless possibility within us and our capabilities.

Or consider the use of the phrase “want to allow.” It suggests a level of desire or inclination. It suggests the only thing standing in my way is myself – my fears, my insecurities, my limited thinking.

What about the choice of the words “to be?” Note that she did not say “to become.” This is a present-minded question. This is not about later, someday, or when. This is not about delaying the gratification of life. This is about finding joy and abundance and expansion and possibility today. Right now.

So, what do you say? How large do you want to allow yourself to be?

A very special, very personal thank you to the friend who challenged me with this question. This is life-changing perspective.

This is the power of coaching.
