A Voice of Clarity
This question popped into my mind last night as I was cooking dinner. Although I had a podcast on in the background, my attention was elsewhere. I was thinking about traveling and the different directions my business could take and the desire to – someday – be in a relationship again and the timing of these things and the cost of these things and the uncertainty of these things and on and on...
And amid all that noise and confusion, a voice of clarity cut through and asked, “Are you willing to be led?”
Meaning, am I willing to let go of the outcome? Am I willing to follow energy and curiosity and opportunity?
And my answer is… Yes.
Yes, because life is more fun that way. Yes, because that is largely what brought me here. For me, life becomes a whole lot more interesting (and less stressful) when I allow space for redirection. There is excitement and a mystery to living life in this way. Elizabeth Gilbert would say that following curiosity is also much gentler than chasing passion.
I understand that not everyone will (or even should) agree with me on this. Some people find great satisfaction in sustained momentum in the same direction. I’m thankful for and genuinely inspired by those people. And as I write this today, that is not me.
Try asking yourself this question: Am I willing to be led? What does this mean to you? What is your reaction to it? There is no “right” answer here… only the answer that’s true for you.
